“Designing for adaption”

27 Osric Street is an adaptive design to circumstances. Located within Gunnedah; a remote Australian community. This disability driven project, is one of simplicity. A low maintenance native design for edible capabilities. The three - dwelling design adaptive for wheelchair accessibility, motor function disability and a home for multiple generational living allows the development to be flexible to circumstances.

Trees planted on property are to be a mixture of species ranging from native to endemic to be best suited for the location of harsh environment of the site. The design of garden beds throughout the site are to be playful, relaxing and encouraging for an environment to connect to country.

For Dwelling 01 disability access for all pathways are to be 1200mm wide with a firm, slip resistant surface; red Brick. Dwellings 02-03 are to consist of medium to low planting schemes that include a range of large-small plants to act as a screen for the adjoining fence walls and front viewing of street.

A playful backyard perspective of dwelling 02, by continuing the use of the house brick for all garden retaining walls, theres a feeling of connectivity to the house, softening the entrances between in the “indoor and outdoor”. Contrast to the house brick, the use of the red brick, local to the Gunnedah region visually.
